removement of nalu filler

Here you can talk about features you would like to see in future releases

removement of nalu filler

Postby bernd_b » Mon May 29, 2017 9:50 am

Very, very well!

I just got positively surprised trying out 0.5 RC2 from this year.
It may give my old Windows XP PC and my damn Technisat Skystar S2 card some further months to have a mean of existence:

I succeeded in:
- manual scanning on two satellites
- playback with nvidia cuvid using lav-filters 0.69 (having very low cpu-load!)
- scheduling a record with waking up the pc from hibernation and return to it

The only thing I am missing:
Is there any way to configure recording to remove the nalu filler on the fly?

Here is an example of an implementation with vdr (video disc recorder) on linux:
http://www.udo-richter.de/vdr/naludump.en.html
There is a stand alone command line tool as well which would be the only work around for me I know off so far (which mean remove the nalu filler with this tool after(!) recording is done)

Kind regards

Thanks,

The hibernation recovery code was somewhat modified so good to know this is working out.

Nalu fillers are not removed on the fly now for transport stream recordings as you have noticed. Does this make a big difference recording size wise with a typical h264 stream? Perhaps the easiest workaround atm would be adding some post record processing option, one could run a batch file (or alike) to do any postprocessing one would like.

Best regards

I find reports about the difference of size from some percent up to 50% on German public stations with recordings having removed nalu filler or not. When I checked manually I noticed values about 20-30 percent.
I will check If I find a stand alone tool for windows.
