Any chance for smartdvb to stream not in udp but in http or rtp protocol?
Because yet, there is not an android app ,able to handle udp streams.

thanks

You can transcode the udp stream into an http stream using VLC. I'll post my .bat file tomorrow when I am at my PC.

Here is how I stream with VLC. After I pick my channel I run at batch file that runs this command.

Code: Select all
vlc --qt-start-minimized --quiet udp://@127.0.0.1:8888 :sout=#transcode{vcodec=h264,vb=600,scale=1,acodec=mp3,ab=128,channels=2,samplerate=44100}:http{dst=:5555/stream.mpg} :sout-keep

This takes the upd stream from SmartDVB on port 8888 (Cant remember if this is the default or one or if I changed it) trancodes it and creates a http stream running on my pc on port 5555.

I can connect to the stream over the internet by forwarding port 5555 to the PC on my network transcoding the stream. http://example.dyndns.org:5555/stream.mpg. Same URL is used when I use my Android cell phone using the MX player app.

Currently when connected I am using about 1.3mb upload from my internet connection. I have pretty decent upload so this is fine, you could modify the vb=600 to something lower if your internet cant handle that kind of upload, of course you will lose quality.

I do have to restart my transcode batch file anytime I change channels, not sure if there is any way around that.

hi anyone here ever used the muticast udp? not sure if that operates correct..
i'll see about rtp streams at future releases not sure it'll make it this beta run though, rdp should be better anyhow concerning packet loss etc..

better for packet loss, yes, but only if you properly implement the whole protocol, or at least the relevant stuff, i would say put this quite low on your todo list, there are much more important things to do first, besides you can always use vlc to do this already, same goes for multicast... even if it doesnt work right, you can always just use vlc to do it.

UDP should work on Android with VLC for Android (http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-android.html) but I haven't tried it.

http streaming might not be that difficult to implement, if more people would welcome this just drop me a note here..
